The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is one of the most important tools available to help Salem families afford food, yet local participation has declined significantly as Massachusetts has begun implementing major changes to the program.

Friends of Mack Park Farm is a new 501(c)(3) that aims to further support the municipal farm that grows food for the community. Nicole Kelley, a volunteer and nonprofit professional, spearheaded the formation of the organization to expand fundraising opportunities that are otherwise limited as a city-run project. 

About 150 Salem residents gathered on September 12 to share a meal, connect with neighbors, and celebrate the ways food can bring a community together.
